The appearance and character of the Irish wolfhound

It should also be noted that it is customary to dock the tail and ears of these dogs, as this is considered an improvement in their guard qualities.
Caucasian wolfhounds were raised in very difficult conditions, and any individuals that were aggressive towards the owner or too weak were quickly rejected. As a result, now dogs of this breed, which have a good pedigree, are distinguished by an incredibly stable psyche, which allows them to perform the assigned task in almost any conditions. Caucasian wolfhounds are balanced, self-confident and ready to endure heat, frost and pain for the sake of the owner. They are very loyal and strong dogs, but they need a firm hand and proper upbringing.
