Breeding most species of parrots is not particularly difficult. Budgerigars, lovebirds and cockatiels have been kept in captivity for decades and are absolutely not demanding on breeding conditions. However, several prerequisites must be observed in order for the reproduction process of parrots to be successful.
Instructions
Step 1
Buy more than one pair of parrots, but several at once. Being in a flock, birds are more actively susceptible to the reproductive instinct. It is in the flock on the principle of "psychological compatibility" that couples are formed.
Step 2
Buy parrots only in special pet stores, where you can buy healthy birds with good appearance. It is the state of health of future parents that significantly affects the ability to reproduce.
Step 3
Provide a family pair of birds with an appropriate "apartment". The cage should be spacious, large and clean.
Step 4
Determine the age and gender of your pets correctly. As a rule, from four months it is already possible to determine the sex of a parrot. The skin at the base of the beak of the female is brown, while that of the male is bright blue. But at such a young age, it is not recommended to start breeding. The offspring will turn out to be weak, and an immature female may even die. The optimal age for the start of reproduction is considered to be a year and a half.
Step 5
Choose the right mineral and vitamin complex for your pets. Indeed, during the breeding season, nutrition plays an important role. Lack of calcium can cause shell fragility and the risk of developing rickets in future chicks. Make sure the poultry has enough iodine in the diet. As a rule, this element is included in the dry complex food for parrots, but you can diversify the diet of birds and add dried seaweed to it. If you have digestive problems, you need to grind the charcoal and add it to a container of sand for birds.
Step 6
Build a nest with a parrot. Birds just need it to calmly lay their testicles. You can buy it at a pet store or make it yourself. The nest should be of optimal size so that the female can later begin to hatch eggs. At the time of incubation, it is especially necessary to carefully monitor the nutrition of the parrots.
Step 7
Remove the unfertilized eggs after one week. They are easily recognizable by the yellowish-white hue of the shell. Fertilized eggs are opaque, slightly grayish. When the chicks hatch, both parents take care of them. During this period, the offspring should not be touched. It will take about a month until the chicks leave the nest and begin to explore their home.
