Exotic animals in the house today are by no means uncommon. Exalted individuals acquire crocodiles, pythons or monkeys, which, by the way, are very troublesome to maintain. Therefore, an increasing number of wildlife lovers are inclined to establish exotic, but picky creatures such as fenech. The small African fox Fenech literally conquers those around him with his huge pointed ears, beady eyes and lively playful disposition.
How not to be mistaken with a choice
It is believed that there are two varieties of such foxes: smooth-haired and shaggy. The latter, by the way, do not differ in beauty, because their fur is more like stubble: the hair is thick, long with an undercoat, but they are very tough, and therefore bristle and do not shine. This fur is the first sign of a wild fennec fox.
Selection fenecs are bred in nurseries, of which there are only a few in Russia. The thing is that some time ago this animal was listed in the Red Book, and today it is forbidden to be exported from Africa, so it is not easy to buy a fox.
There are no large nurseries, they are all private, only 2 are known beyond the Urals: in Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk, although there is evidence that about 1,500 fenechs live in the houses of citizens, who are of reproductive age, which means they could give birth and become the beginning of a new private nursery African foxes.
All these circumstances, as well as the fact that animals require special care and nutrition, make the purchase of a fennec fox very expensive. A wild puppy costs from 20,000 rubles, a puppy from a kennel - from 50,000 rubles, a domesticated one - from $ 3,000.
Where and how to buy
It is not easy to buy fenech also because of the large number of scammers who sell animals. So, the Internet is full of advertisements for the sale of puppies at a reduced price. However, none of the agents will agree to bring you to the nursery. This is the first sign that either there is no fenech at all (and they just want to take money from the client and disappear), or they will bring you a wild fox, which, believe me, will turn your house upside down and sneak away at the first opportunity.
It is important for the breeder to give the animal in safe hands so that the fox does not die and is not returned to the nursery.
Unfortunately, real nurseries do not advertise themselves and work mainly with a narrow circle of people who are really keen on African big-eared chanterelles. You can search for contacts in social networks, for example, in "VKontakte" there is a group of fans of fenechs. It is unlikely that it will be possible to buy a fox from the litter there, but often the owners who could not get along with the hyperactive animal put up their pets for sale.
If you managed to find the contacts of the cattery, be sure to go there, do not agree to the delivery of the animal, not a single breeder will bring you the goods, this is not accepted, besides, the fox is a peculiar animal, and the breeder will study you no less than you do a fox!
It is also important to remember that fennecs are social animals, they do not tolerate separation from their owners and their chosen one, who is chosen at a young age. Therefore, foxes are usually sold in pairs.
It is a little easier to find a fox in Ukraine. Ukrzoo openly offers its fennecs, but they are not highly valued in the market due to objective incest.
