If you have a pet and are engaged in breeding from it, you may have an ambitious idea of breeding a new breed. This is not to say that this is not feasible, but it will take a lot of time and work to implement such an idea. How can you breed a new breed?
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure that the traits you want to get in the new breed are appropriate. Let's say you have a kitten with an unusual color and an interesting shape of the ears. It may turn out that a similar breed already exists, or the animal, due to its unusual exterior, has some deviations, for example, deafness or blindness. In addition, an unusual conformation can be inherited, for example, only by females and it will be impossible to get exactly the same male. And you may be inspired by the fact that most new breeds have always been created by accident.
Step 2
Select a pair for breeding. In addition to the exterior, animals must be healthy, smart enough and agile. These conditions are necessary for producing good offspring. If a second animal with signs of a new breed was not born in the same litter, the selected pet should be crossed with a close relative - a brother, sister, mother or father, which can help enhance the necessary signs.
Step 3
Having received offspring, select animals with the most pronounced traits of the new breed and cross them already in order to accumulate the necessary traits. It is necessary to continue selection and crossing until the volume of offspring with the necessary traits becomes maximum, i.e. 100 percent.
Step 4
Keep in mind that constant closely related crossbreeding can lead to poor health of the offspring and genetic pathologies, up to infertility or non-viability of the offspring. In order to avoid this, carefully check the parents and discard animals that have recently been ill, with problems with teeth, bones, overweight or underweight and other problems.
Step 5
Having received 10 healthy animals with fixed and inherited breed characteristics, you can consider that you have achieved your goal.
