Dogs, cats, hamsters and aquarium fish are common pets that will hardly surprise your guests. If you want something special, get a spider. This is an exotic-looking animal that will not sit on your lap while you pet it, but will give you many interesting minutes spent observing its life.
Most often, tarantulas and tarantulas are kept in home terrariums. Both are rather large arachnids, covered with hairs and have a very impressive appearance. Caring for spiders is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance, but for the successful breeding of these animals, you need to create the conditions they need.
Spider dwelling
Before you start a spider, you need to equip a home for it. Usually a terrarium acts as such, but you need to equip it depending on the natural habitat to which your pet is accustomed. Some spiders need a thick layer of substrate to burrow into, others need driftwood. The humidity in the terrarium also depends on the habitual environment of the animal. Spiders living in the tropics need to create 75-90% humidity, but for desert-shrubs, 50-75% will be more acceptable. Do not keep multiple spiders in the same enclosure. These arachnids are predators that will gladly dine with their neighbor.
How to feed a spider
Both tarantulas and tarantulas are predators. They feed on insects: ground beetles, caterpillars, crickets, bears, beetles and cockroaches. Also, the tarantula is able to eat birds, fish, small rodents, frogs and other medium-sized representatives of the animal world.
Breeding
While keeping spiders at home is easy, persuading them to have offspring is not an easy task. It is advisable to begin acquaintance of the male with the female some time after their molt. "Dating" should take place in a separate large terrarium, which none of them considers their territory. If you have tarantula spiders, it is advisable to start the female into the new terrarium first and give her time to get used to it. As soon as she gets used to, she begins to eat normally and begins to make a home for herself, you can bring a gentleman to her. Before mating tarantulas, the females of which are able to kill the male even before the start of the action, the lady should be well fed. It is better to arrange a date with spiders in the evening, when they are calmer.
Even if mating was successful, this does not mean that the female spider will immediately begin to build a cocoon. She stores spermatozoa in a special organ - a sperm cell. If the environment in which she lives suits her - the terrarium is spacious, comfortable and reliably protected, there is enough food, then the eggs are fertilized. After that, the expectant mother starts building a dwelling for her offspring. If the female spider is not satisfied with something, she can postpone fertilization until better times.
