Any pet parrot owner would like to protect his pet from diseases. But, unfortunately, this is not always possible, especially in the cold season - after all, parrots are so sensitive to hypothermia and drafts. Of course, first of all, if you experience symptoms of the disease, you should contact your veterinarian. Remember that because birds have a fast metabolism, their diseases progress quickly too. There is no time to waste. How can you help a bird while you are waiting for a doctor?
It is necessary
- - electric lamp or room heater;
- - a cloth to cover the cage.
Instructions
Step 1
The first symptoms that your parrot is sick are decreased activity and lack of appetite. The occurrence of discharge from the nasal passages or diarrhea is all the more a reason to be wary. An alarming symptom is rapid, wheezing, intermittent breathing. It is very good if you know the bird and its behavior for a long time. If a shy and wild bird suddenly became tame and affectionate, this is a reason to be wary, perhaps the parrot needs help. Watching your pet, try to be out of his field of vision, not to disturb him.
Step 2
A sick bird should first be placed in a warm place. If the parrot was kept in an open cage, first move it to a room at room temperature. Only after a few hours can the temperature rise to about 30 ° C. Keep the bird calm in the room.
Step 3
If you are using an electric lamp for heating, do not place the cage too close to it. The parrot should be able to choose a comfortable distance from the heater. Watch his movements around the cage: depending on whether he is trying to get closer to the heater or move away from it as far as possible, choose the optimal location of the cage in the room.
Step 4
Create a shadow for the parrot in the cage by covering part of the cage with a rag. Perhaps in the shade, he will feel more comfortable. If after some time after the start of heating the bird's health has deteriorated, the bird moves away from the lamp, breathes heavily, opening its beak, hides in the shade - it is better to turn off the lamp.
Step 5
Provide your bird with nutritious food, using high-calorie fresh food: after all, your pet will need a lot of energy to recover, and his appetite is reduced. To increase immunity, you can add citrus fruits to the parrot's diet. It is not recommended to give medicines to birds without consulting a doctor. Self-diagnosis can be wrong because the symptoms of a cold can be very similar to those of other diseases.
