To cure a sick parrot, you must first determine what it is sick with. An accurate diagnosis can only be made by a doctor after examination and the necessary tests. If you could not find a qualified specialist, you will have to cope on your own.

It is necessary

  • - incandescent lamp or infrared lamp;
  • - chamomile flowers;
  • - honey;
  • - "Vetom";
  • - "Linex";
  • - "Bifidumbacterin";
  • - "Neostomozan" (or "Butox");
  • - aversectin ointment.

Instructions

Step 1

The reason for the abnormal behavior of the bird (refusal to eat, plucking feathers, and so on) can be trivial stress. It occurs not only when a bird is transported to a new house or transplanted into another cage, but also, for example, with severe fright, a sharp change in diet, insufficient physical activity, or a violation of the temperature regime in the room.

Step 2

To relieve the parrot of stress, you need to let the bird calm down. To do this, keep small children and pets away from the cage for several days, try not to make sudden movements in the parrot's field of view, do not raise your voice in the room where it is. Adjust daylight hours. In summer, the bird should be in a well-lit room for at least 12 hours, in winter - at least 9 hours. If parrots have no problems with stool, you can treat them to something tasty: fresh tree twigs or chumiza.

Step 3

Many diseases can cause malnutrition. If you notice that birds are eating less, having trouble defecating, or their droppings become too runny or discolored, try reducing the amount of fruits, vegetables and herbs in the diet. In some cases, it is recommended to completely remove vitamin food from the menu, leaving only water and grain feed. Try to figure out what exactly caused the digestive upset: this product must be immediately eliminated from the diet for good.

Step 4

In some cases, grain feed becomes the cause of the disease. It can be dirty, dusty, moldy, rancid, or contain rodent excrement, insect larvae. Look at the grains each time you add food to your parrot. They should not smell anything, be clean, without foreign inclusions. The appearance of a barely noticeable cobweb on the walls of the jar or grains is a serious reason to throw out all the food and buy a new pack. In the store, always look at the expiration date. It is best to buy food in sealed bags, as the grains in the carton can be contaminated.

Step 5

The sick bird sits crumpled, does not tighten one paw during sleep, loses interest in food, is less active (does not play and almost does not fly). Sometimes you can notice shortness of breath and some kind of external signs (absence of feathers, the appearance of growths on the beak or skin under the feathers). If you notice any of the above, give the bird complete rest. If you have several parrots, the patient should be moved into a separate, thoroughly disinfected, cage. Place an incandescent or infrared lamp near the cage. Remember to shade one of the corners of the cage where the parrot can go if it gets too hot.

Step 6

Treatment for parrots often requires medication. They can be mixed with food or dissolved in water, which is poured into the drinker. If the parrot refuses food and water, you will have to bury the medicine in the beak from a pipette.

Step 7

An excellent antiseptic is chamomile infusion. Add 2 teaspoons of dried chamomile flowers (available at a regular pharmacy) to a glass of boiling water, wrap in a towel and leave for 10-15 minutes. Then let the solution cool and pour the bird into the drinker. Remember to change this drink several times a day. Honey can be an excellent medicine and a source of easily digestible carbohydrates. Dissolve 2-3 drops of honey in warm water and add to the drinking bowl.

Step 8

Veterinary pharmacies sell products proven by many breeders for the treatment and prevention of diseases of parrots. Vetom is a probiotic. It is given to birds with diarrhea, viral and bacterial infections, and colds. Within 10 days, "Vetom" is added to ordinary water in the drinking bowl: 50 ml of water requires a fifth of a teaspoon of the medicine.

Step 9

Another effective probiotic is Bifidumbacterin. It helps to cope with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in parrots, as well as colds. "Linex" is a drug for the treatment and prevention of dysbiosis. Poultry should add the contents of the capsules to the feed for 7-10 days. Before giving any of these and other medications to the bird, read the instructions carefully, check the expiration date and be sure to follow the recommended dosage.

Step 10

One of the most common diseases in parrots is knemidocoptosis - damage to the beak, beak and legs with a tick. The parrot develops growths that increase over time. This can lead to an early and painful death of the bird. During the treatment of knemidocoptosis, the bird is not released from the cage, which was previously disinfected with Neostomosan or Butox (1 ampoule is diluted in 1 liter of water). Aversectin ointment should be used to treat poultry. Using a cotton swab, the ointment is applied to the affected areas once every 5 days. The course of treatment lasts until even the slightest manifestations of the disease disappear. If the case of knemidocoptosis is neglected, then the treatment is performed more often.
