Of course, it is very difficult to completely wean a kitten from scratching, but at least you can try to reduce the number of scratches that you and your household receive every day while playing with the kitten.
- One of the easiest options is to train your kitten to trim its nails regularly. In principle, many cat owners trim the growing sharp tip of the claw to their pets about once every three weeks. Such a simple procedure will save all household members from accidental scratches.
- To wean a kitten from scratching, do not use draconian measures in the form of corporal punishment. It is necessary to accustom the kitten to the word "no". Any cat should know this word from an early age. In order for the command “no” to have at least some effect on the kitten, you need to say this word sharply and loudly - with practically the same intonation with which dog owners say “fu!” To their pets.
- After you have told the kitten "no", you should immediately switch the attention of the animal to some kind of toy - this way you can distract him from the thoughts of scratching. As a result, a logical chain should be formed: the cat will understand that the owner's hands or feet are not a toy, it is better to play with something rustling, ringing or rolling. By the way, make sure that the kitten has enough toys - then the animal will always know what to do with itself. If the kitten uses you as a climbing tree, make concessions and get him a real climbing tree. Today, many pet stores sell comfortable climbing trees, which are real cat complexes with poles, houses, hammocks, shelves. If you have such a tree in your house, the kitten will always find something to do: you can sharpen the claws on the surface of the tree, and climbing up to the top of the structure, the kitten will waste extra energy.
- If the kitten is angry in earnest, and tries to attack you in order to bite or scratch, you need to hiss at it - you should hiss until the cat is scared and does not lag behind. After that, it is advisable to offer him something tasty, such a treat will become a symbol of reconciliation.
