Lovebird parrots are one of the most interesting and popular inhabitants of Russian apartments. They are brightly colored, much larger than ordinary budgerigars and take very touching care of each other during the breeding season. However, even an experienced specialist will not always be able to distinguish a male from a female by appearance. Finding out how to do it correctly.

lovebirds, observation and attention
Instructions
Step 1
Pay attention to the size of the birds. The female is usually slightly larger than the male, but if the parrots have not formed a mating pair, but are kept in a flock, it is almost impossible to distinguish females and males solely on this basis. Do not forget about the individual characteristics of the growth and development of each bird. It is not at all necessary that a larger individual will end up being a female.
Step 2
Look at the base of the parrot's beak and the size of the head. In males, the head is smaller, and the upper part of the base of the beak is narrower than in females. Again, if individuals differ from each other in size, it is possible that the head and beak will also have a larger size precisely because of the individual characteristics of development, so you should not completely rely on this trait. Note the shape of the bird's skull. In males, it is elongated and flattened from above, and the forehead is lower than that of the female. The female skull is shorter and more domed.
Step 3
In a relaxed environment, birds can be distinguished by landing on a perch. Look at how the parrots hold up. Males are distinguished by a more vertical position, while females, on the contrary, sit slightly spread apart. Of course, you should look closely at parrots for several days, since each bird can take different positions depending on its mood, time of day and type of activity.
