The largest cat in the world is considered to be a native Maine Coon cat, which has long been known in Europe and America and has never ceased to gain popularity in Russia. Representatives of this breed have a peculiar appearance and character, not to mention their enormous size, due to which they gather large audiences at exhibitions.
The weight of representatives of the Maine Coon breed can reach 15 kg, although usually the average weight of cats is from 5 to 8 kg, and of cats - 8-10 kg. At the same time, the animals look quite normal and do not resemble their overfed and obese relatives. Maine raccoon cats have inhabited American farms since ancient times, as they excellently fought against numerous rodents. It was these pets that became the first representatives of the feline family, which the owners began to represent at cat lovers' exhibitions in the late 19th century in the United States. This time is considered the beginning of the official history of this breed, which began to be described in detail in numerous publications. Maine Coon cats have a strong constitution. They have a thick, shiny and silky coat that is shorter on the front of the body and longer on the hind legs and abdomen. There are tassels on the ears, giving the animal a lynx-like appearance. The tufts between the toes and in the ears provide protection from the cold. The paws of the cat are wide and strong. Thanks to the large ears and eyes, the animal's vision and hearing are significantly improved. The long muzzle of cats has a square shape, resembling a lion's, which is convenient for catching prey in burrows and ponds. Obviously, the Maine Coon look is excellent for living in the wild. Maine Coons are surprisingly kind and balanced in nature, as well as trusting and curious, like children. These animals are true friends and companions. They try to take part in all household chores and are very attached to the owner, following on his heels and exploring the surrounding space. Maine Coons are very active and mobile animals that preserve the habits of kittens until old age. They like a variety of dynamic games, and they can be quite entertained even without the participation of the owner. In addition, these cats are very sociable creatures, able to live in the same house even with other animals, including dogs.
