The African snail, or Achatina, is an exotic pet. But if cats are recognized "stress relievers", and dogs are considered true friends of man, then not everyone understands what interest an ordinary snail can be.
1. Simple maintenance
If you do not have the time and energy to clean the aquarium or cage, and you find it difficult to take care of your pets, then the African snail is the perfect solution to your problem. All she needs is a terrarium for land snails (you can use glass / plastic containers / jars, closed on top with a lid with holes, the approximate size is 10 liters per individual) and moist soil (soil from a deciduous forest, coconut substrate, peat, soil "Begonia", spray every day), which should be changed only once every 2-3 weeks during general cleaning of the terrarium. As for feeding, here too Achatina is completely unpretentious. Snails eat vegetables, fruits and herbs, they also need a source of calcium to build a strong beautiful shell - it can be powdered eggshell, sepia or cuttlefish shell (sold in pet stores), meat and bone meal, natural chalk (not school chalk!). Prohibited foods containing salt, alcohol, chemicals, as well as citrus fruits and raw potatoes (possibly fatal). An interesting fact: when feeding a snail with "bright" vegetables and fruits (tomatoes, bell peppers), the Achatina shell will have a rich, bright color.
2. Achatina - for allergy sufferers
People who are allergic to wool are not allowed to have fluffy pets, but many want to have at least some living creature in the house. The snail is an excellent option in this case: its skin is wrinkled and folded, and the mucus released from it does not cause allergic reactions.
3. Achatina - bright, original, unusual
Cats, dogs, hamsters are nothing new. If you want to have an unusual exotic animal, but at the same time faint from arachnids, or it is difficult for you to care for a cute domestic python or a lizard, then, apparently, you have been looking for an African snail for a long time. This charming creature, despite all its slowness, is quite clever - Achatina quickly learns to recognize “us” from “strangers”, and after a period of time it will be happy to explore your palm without hiding in a shell. And try to imagine the faces of your friends and acquaintances, when, having come to visit you, they will find in your hands a snail up to thirty centimeters long!
4. Possibility of earning
There are many breeds of Achatina, as a result of which many owners of snails are engaged in breeding and further selling them. So, knowing all the features of these animals, having all the necessary equipment for keeping them and, most importantly, having patience, strength and time, you can combine business with pleasure - to breed Achatina for sale.
As you can see, the African snail has many advantages. I hope Achatina did not leave you indifferent and, perhaps, in the future you will become the owner of this cute creature with two pairs of horns!
