The budgerigar is an active, intelligent, but also very vulnerable pet, the taming process of which can give you a lot of pleasure. It is not for nothing that these birds live in large flocks - they need communication like air. And if there are no other birds nearby, he will gladly "accept" you and your household members into the flock. How to get the parrot to become tame in the truest sense of the word - to start sitting on your hand?
Instructions
Step 1
From the first day at a new place of residence, start accustoming the wavy to your presence. Come to his cage, talk to him. The bird house should be located at the level of your eyes - this way the bird will be calmer and more comfortable for you. At first, the parrot will be afraid of you, and this is quite natural. He will get used to the sounds of your house, the mode of life of its inhabitants. Do not be surprised if later you find that your pet treats each member of the family differently - these birds are able to have their own opinion.
Step 2
When the parrot stops being afraid of you, start teaching him not to be afraid of your hands - give him a treat through the bars of the cage. It is better to do this in the morning, when he does not mind having breakfast. Perhaps not right away, but the bird will still decide to take a treat from you. After that, start periodically doing some manipulations with objects in his cage - fix the mirror, fix the ladder, etc. If your feathered friend has stopped shying away from your hand, put a treat in your palm and offer it to him. Keep your hand at such a distance that he cannot reach the contents of his palm from the perch - let him try to jump onto it, or at least stand with one paw.
Step 3
Don't expect quick results. The process of taming a budgerigar lasts up to two months, you should not rush and neglect some of its stages - so you risk returning to the very beginning. And the second time, gaining his trust will be much more difficult. When the wavy begins to sit on your hand inside the cage without fear, take it out of it. The taming process on the loose, so to speak on an equal footing, will advance much faster. Just do not forget about the rules of a safe walk - remove everything that can harm your pet, and be sure to return it to the house in the evening - for its own safety.
Step 4
And finally, a few more tips. If you want to get a completely tame pet, you need to take it as young as possible. Older birds are much less tamed. Be patient. If at the moment you are not in the mood, it is better not to approach the cage. By sharpness, you can nullify all your previous efforts. Treat the budgerigar like a small but personality, and he will surely answer you in kind, making him stand out from all.
