One of the important conditions for the successful keeping of chickens on a personal plot is to provide the bird with the necessary range. Walking in the fresh air has a beneficial effect on egg production and in many ways contributes to good weight gain in chickens. Poultry walking in summer, winter, autumn and spring has its own characteristics.
Instructions
Step 1
A prerequisite for proper bird walking is the sufficient size of the area. The grazing area for 10 chickens should not be less than 30 m2. However, even with this size, the walking area is quickly trampled by the bird, all vegetation is pulled out on it, and insects disappear. If the territory of the site allows, equip several walks on it, which must be changed periodically. This will allow the chickens to graze on fresh ground with reclaimed grass and allow you to keep the rest of the grounds clean.
Step 2
Provide a place for bird walks in a part of the garden where there are no low bushes, but there are tall fruit stands. This will provide the necessary shade in case the summer turns out to be unusually hot and dry. Enclose the summer area for walking with a metal grate. Build a light canopy over the walking area to allow the bird to release in rainy weather.
Step 3
To walk the chickens during the cold season, clean an area at least 2 meters wide from the front of the house along the entire length of the building. Cover the area with a mat, which must be cleaned daily indoors at night. From the sunny side, enclose the corral with a metal mesh, and from the sides - with wooden shields or fences made of straw and brushwood. It is also necessary to build a canopy over the winter paddock. The roof and walls will protect the bird from strong winds, rain and snow. If the weather is frosty (up to minus 12 degrees), release the chickens for a short walk in the middle of the day. At lower temperatures, the bird should not be walked.
Step 4
If your farm is located in an area where large-scale arable and harvest work is carried out, you can place the birds in a small mobile chicken coop. This facility is located in the immediate vicinity of a plowing or harvesting site, and the bird finds a large number of worms and insects in the ground. In addition, the chickens pick up the grains that have not been removed by the equipment. This method will not only provide the bird with the necessary walking in the fall and spring, but will also allow you to significantly save on feed.
