Ferrets need regular grooming due to the large number of subcutaneous sebaceous glands. Some ferrets are comfortable with washing, some enthusiastically, some vehemently against it. But be that as it may, washing is a procedure that needs to be mastered.
It is necessary
Warm water, special ferret shampoo, terry towel, hair dryer, deodorant
Instructions
Step 1
If the ferret is still quite a puppy (up to 2, 5-3 months) and has a decent appearance, then you should not wash it. However, if it smells strong and is very dirty, you can and even need to bathe it. If the ferret's legs, bottom or belly are slightly dirty, you can simply wipe them with a damp cloth. It is not recommended to wash your ferret more than once a month. If you abuse washing with the use of detergents, the functionality of the glands will be disrupted, the smell emanating from the ferret will increase many times, the skin will begin to peel off, the fur will not be thick and shiny.
Step 2
The question of where to wash your ferret should be approached individually. Someone calmly perceives washing in the shower, while someone is given in their hands only in a basin of water. This can only be found out experimentally. Bathing water should be warm about 36-38 ° C.
Step 3
Use specialized products for washing. Ferret shampoo is available at your pet store. If you purchased a concentrated shampoo, read the instructions for use. Concentrated shampoos must be diluted with water in certain proportions. If you don't have a specialized ferret wash on hand and you need to wash your ferret, you can use a non-stinging baby shampoo by dampening your ferret's fur with warm water. Put a small amount of shampoo on your palm, rub the shampoo lightly with your hands and apply it to the coat from head to tail, paying special attention to the paws, butt and tummy. Avoid getting water and shampoo in the animal's nose and ears.
Step 4
After you've soaped your ferret well, rinse off the shampoo thoroughly. You can dab the ferret fur with a terry towel. Place a towel on the floor and release the ferret, it will wipe itself on it. You can also blow dry your ferret, but this must be done carefully, gradually getting the ferret accustomed to drying so as not to scare the animal. After the ferret is washed and dried, you can use a special deodorant to give the fur a fresh and pleasant scent. In addition, many deodorants have an additional conditioning effect, which has a positive effect on the appearance of ferret fur.
