The question of how to identify a female parrot can baffle even true lovers of these amazing birds. It is far from always possible to do this at home, however, for a number of species of parrots, when determining sex, it makes sense to take into account a few simple recommendations. Guided by them, you can easily find out the sex of the pet.
Instructions
Step 1
Follow this step if you have a different gender spirit at your disposal. In this case, to identify the female parrot, look for such external signs as the size of the beak and its base and the shape of the head. The female parrot is more diminutive and neat. In the opposite direction, the setting of the paws is different: the males are less stable and their paw span is less. Listen to the couple's chirping: the talkative parrot is the male.
Step 2
Use the color of the bird as a marker to identify the female parrot if you have purchased an Eclectus parrot. A bright red individual with light-colored eyes is a representative of the fair sex. Males, on the other hand, are distinguished by plumage of a rich green color and brown with an iris.
Step 3
Look at the color of the part of the skin that is located directly above the beak - this is a distinguishing feature of the female budgerigar. Check if the purchased bird has a bluish color, then in front of you is a young female, if brown, then an older pet. Boys are characterized by a pinkish color of wax, and for older representatives of budgerigars, a bright blue. Pay special attention to the presence of a white edging: only females have it.
Step 4
Watch the cockatiel as you fly while trying to spot the female parrot. Light oval spots on the inner side of the wings will tell you that there is a girl in front of you. Another characteristic feature is a slightly pronounced reddish tint of the cheeks (in males it is much more saturated).
Step 5
Look at the cheeks of the purchased individual rosella: in males, the cisterns are white, while in females it is gray. Noticing a small area painted in the color of the neck on the back of the head, you will receive another confirmation that you are in front of a female. This will be evidenced by the light edging of the wings.
Step 6
Take a look at the neck of the necklace catcher, or the Alexandrian parrot, to understand that you have not acquired a female: the colored decoration is characteristic only of males. However, this will only help you if the bird has already reached the age of 2-3 years.
Step 7
Set the gender for certain cockatoo species: large white-crested, Inca cockatoos, and large and small yellow-crested cockatoos. Pay attention to the iris of these birds: the dark color is typical for boys, and light brown for females.
Step 8
Take advantage of another opportunity to identify a female parrot - examine her genitals. However, this method is associated with the operation of euthanasia and can only be carried out in the presence of a doctor.
