What are "broilers"
The term "broiler" is translated from the English word "broil" means "roasting on a brazier or spit", which is usually used to cook young chickens. Therefore, broiler chickens are mainly called young hens weighing up to 2 kilograms or live / slaughtered cockerels. Their meat has high dietary, nutritional and taste qualities compared to adult chickens.
Broiler chickens are especially useful for children, adolescents, athletes, as well as the elderly and sick people.
Broilers are raised from special breeds of meat chickens, from the eggs of which chickens are hatched with high vitality, rapid growth and a fleshy body. These are the White Cornish and White Plymouth Rock. In commercial production, they are usually crossed with each other, resulting in excellent choice broilers. In the conditions of amateur production, only white plymouthrocks are suitable for keeping, the chickens of which are raised for the purpose of obtaining meat.
Growing broilers
Broiler chickens are grown indoors and are rarely walked, as they grow poorly with unlimited ranges. In addition, broilers do not need perches. When using an electric brooder, broiler chickens can be grown in a summer kitchen, on a veranda or in a barn, placing 8 to 9 heads per 1 square meter of floor. At the same time, the room should be light, dry and closed from drafts, and the floor should be disinfected with special means.
About 70 chickens (85-100 kilograms of dietary meat) can be obtained from one broiler laying hen in the home during the warm season.
Of decisive importance in broiler rearing are feed, the quality of which determines the viability, growth and meat of the chickens. The most suitable for them is a factory feed, in which all types of vitamins, microelements and nutrients are balanced. However, broilers also thrive on homemade mixed feeds. This mixture should include: corn, wheat, oatmeal, barley, sunflower meal, fish or meat and bone meal, cottage cheese, fresh or fermented milk, and baker's yeast. Broiler chicks should not be restricted in access to feed, and they should always have fresh, clean water in the drinker. It is also very important to ensure that the feed does not sour in the feeders.
