Taming a rabbit to the toilet is troublesome, but quite feasible. Close observation of the animal, patience and affection are indispensable components for the fulfillment of the plan.
Instructions
Step 1
Do not start toilet training the day the animal enters your house. Let him get used to it a little, get used to new sounds and smells. Don't forget that rabbits are very gentle and shy creatures. They must be handled gently and carefully.
Step 2
Place a small cat tray in the rabbit's cage. It can be filled with animal wood litter, sawdust, or pieces of paper. Under no circumstances use synthetic cat litter - the rabbit may eat up the pellets and die. Also, do not use pieces of newspaper - printing ink is very harmful to animals.
Step 3
The toilet should be located away from the place that your furry pet has chosen for sleeping and feeding. Sometimes animals choose their own corner for a latrine. In this case, it is worth transferring the tray to it.
Step 4
If the animal ignores the toilet, try putting some solid excrement in it. Soak the pieces of paper in the puddles the rabbit leaves in the cage and place them in the tray as well. This will make it easier for the rabbit to understand what the owner requires of him.
Step 5
Once your pet gets used to walking to its proper place in the cage, you can try teaching him to go to his toilet when he walks around the apartment. Letting the rabbit run around the house, put the tray out of the cage, be sure to show it to the animal. To begin with, it is worth taming the animal to the toilet in a small area so that the animal can be under your supervision. Then the boundaries should be gradually expanded. You can use treats as a reward, such as slices of carrots or apples.
Step 6
You can also use a spray that is sold at the pet store to train your rabbit to the toilet. It needs to be sprayed in the place that you have identified for the toilet.
