Instructions
Step 1
Turtles are terrestrial and aquatic. Land turtles are fed vegetables, fruits, lettuce, dandelions, and clover. You can give them low-fat dairy products, meat, boiled eggs. Sometimes turtles are given shellfish and earthworms. Young turtles are fed daily until about a year and a half, then they begin to feed every other day. The older the turtle, the more plant foods should be given to it.
Step 2
Aquatic turtles are fed with meat, worms, gammarus crustaceans, fish, but not too fatty, they are also given plants, fruits and vegetables. Everything is almost the same as with land. So that the water in which the aquatic turtles live is not contaminated from food, you can feed it from your hands - teach it to swim, for example, by tapping your fingers on the glass, and give food on tweezers.
Step 3
Turtles living at home need to be additionally fed with vitamins. Pet stores sell special vitamin and mineral complexes for turtles. Vitamins are given to pets with food.
Step 4
Turtles are not social animals, they are quite good and alone. But several pets will interact, it's very interesting. You need to have at least three turtles, two will constantly fight for territory. Animals should be selected so that they do not differ too much in size and strength. Feed them enough to avoid causing conflicts.
Step 5
A terrarium is necessary for an aquatic turtle, and it is advisable that it be with a land one, which can buy a second-hand aquarium. Perhaps it is leaking somewhere, so it will cost significantly less. The aquatic turtle needs a good terrarium. If you decide to make it yourself, the main thing is not to use toxic and harmful materials to hold the glass together.
Step 6
Turtles need UV light, so you will need to purchase a special lamp. You can buy a regular UV lamp at a home appliance store, or at a pet store (it will be more expensive there). Choose a low lamp power, medical ones will not work. Raise the lamp above the terrarium 0.5 m or more. You need to irradiate the turtle 1-2 times a week, for 5 minutes, with time increasing this time to reach 30-60 minutes daily. Let the heating of the terrarium always work while it is light. In the summertime, you can take the animal outside so that the turtle bask in the sun.
