By teaching the puppy this command, you will greatly facilitate your life when you need to examine the dog, trim the claws or wipe the paws after a walk.
Instructions
Step 1
It is recommended to start teaching the puppy the command "Give a paw" at 4-5 months. Although, some capable puppies can learn this command at an earlier age.
Step 2
It should be noted that any dog, be it a huge Caucasian shepherd dog, or a tiny decorative Yorkie, can have only one owner. All the rest for the dog are members of its pack. It is the owner who, first of all, must obey the dog, it is to his voice to react. Therefore, one person should work with the puppy.
Step 3
If your puppy already knows the Sit command, use this command to sit him on the floor in front of you. If this command has not yet been mastered, lightly press on the animal's back, not far from the tail, forcing the dog to take a sitting position. Be careful not to hurt your puppy. The puppy should be seated in such a way that he can easily reach you without getting up.
Step 4
Do Exercise 1 Take in your right hand and show the puppy a piece of your favorite treat. Hold the treat in the palm of your hand. Wait for the moment when the puppy realizes that it will not be possible to extract the desired piece with the nose and will try to get it with the paw. At this moment, you should give the command "Give a paw", take the puppy's paw in your hand and hold it in this position for a few seconds. Make sure that the puppy's paw is not twisted or raised too high - this can scare the baby. Release the puppy's paw, praise him and reward him with the desired treat. This exercise must be performed 3-4 times in a row, several times a day.
Step 5
Do the following exercise Sit on the floor and place the dog in front of you. Command "Give a paw", lift the puppy's paw with one hand and gently point it towards your other hand. It should be noted that it is necessary to raise the puppy's paw to the level of his shoulders. a higher paw position can cause discomfort to the puppy. Hold the puppy's paw in your palm for a few seconds. Praise your baby and give him a treat. It is recommended to repeat the exercise 3-4 times in a row, several times a day.
Step 6
Choose the right time to practice with your puppy Never start a practice if your puppy is hungry, sleepy, or just tired.
Do not work with your puppy if you are upset or annoyed about something. Never punish a puppy if he cannot master the exercise. Give your baby a treat after each exercise. If you see that the puppy is tired or not feeling well, stop training. Remember to take breaks between classes.
