Toy Terriers, like representatives of other breeds of decorative dogs, need education and proper feeding. There is a great temptation to please the baby in everything and treat him with goodies from your table. However, this can lead to obesity or diabetes.

Even such a small, but poorly educated dog can bring a lot of trouble to both its owners and the people around it. And who will be pleased with a not-too-healthy puppy that looks like a barrel with legs from overeating? Therefore, it is worth pulling yourself together and seriously approach feeding and raising your toy.

Feeding

It is recommended to feed a puppy at the age of 1, 5–2 months 6 times a day, alternating cottage cheese diluted with kefir or milk, finely chopped raw meat and milk porridge. To cook porridge, you need to grind oatmeal, rice or buckwheat in a coffee grinder, boil it well, adding 1-3 grains of salt. The break between feedings during the day should be 3-4 hours, and at night you need to teach the puppy not to eat for 8 hours.

By 2–3 months, you should gradually increase the portions and reduce the number of feeds to 5 times a day. Sometimes, instead of milk porridge, you can give porridge with meat. It is also necessary to introduce boiled egg yolk into the pet's diet.

At 3-5 months, the menu should be expanded with stewed vegetables and fish. Also, the baby can happily wash down food with cow's milk. At this age, it is enough to feed the puppy 4 times a day.

From 5 to 9 months, it is worth transferring the toy to three meals a day. And after 9 months, the puppy, like an adult dog, eats 2 times a day. Milk is no longer necessary, but do not neglect cottage cheese and fermented milk products, they are necessary at any age.

Even an adult dog should not be given the following foods: sweets, pasta, white bread. A threat to the pet's liver is fatty, smoked and spicy foods, sour cream and butter. As a substitute, you can offer your pet fruit, occasionally - honey, dried brown bread.

Upbringing

Don't put off raising a puppy until later. You should start as soon as the baby has settled in your home. The first skills of correct behavior should be instilled in dogs by the breeder, however, the owner also needs to work a lot on raising the pet.

First of all, it is worth teaching the puppy to be clean. You need to spread newspapers or special diapers in the room. If the puppy "went" to a specially designated place, you need to praise him and give him a treat. Try to play a lot with your baby during the day in active games so that by the evening he gets tired, calmed down and does not make noise at night. Make sure he has safe toys to chew on. And the things that he can spoil, it is better to remove from sight.

It is necessary to teach your pet to walk on a leash and execute the command "to me", or suitable for a toy terrier "on the arms", so that he knows how to listen to the owner on a walk. The puppy also needs to get used to staying at home alone. To do this, start with twenty minutes of absences, gradually increasing the time, and soon the pet will patiently wait for your return.

Teach your toy terrier to follow simple commands, walk and play with him more often. And if you plan to participate in exhibitions, you must also train the puppy in ring stride and stands. All this develops the intelligence of the dog and does not let him get bored.

Remember that it is almost impossible to retrain an adult dog, all habits, both bad and good, are formed in childhood, so take a responsible and serious approach to raising a toy terrier puppy.
