Features of the appearance of the Pekingese
The weight of dogs of this breed can range from 3 to 5 kilograms, while females, as a rule, are heavier than males. At the withers, the height of the Pekingese reaches 20 cm. The head and body are covered with thick and long hair, usually golden-red, black, white, cream or fawn. A strong body with a wide chest is steadily supported on slightly crooked legs - in its physique, the Pekingese resembles a small Chinese dragon with a lion's face - a massive forehead, wide-set bulging round eyes, an upturned nose and a strong lower jaw. They are distinguished by an innate intelligence, friendliness and a constant willingness to take part in fun games and fun.
How to care for a Pekingese
When purchasing a puppy of this breed, you should know that not very difficult, but constant care is required for him. The paws of the Pekingese require special attention. First, the thick hair that grows between the pads of the fingers must be regularly cut with scissors with rounded ends so that it does not get confused and does not interfere with the dog's movement. Secondly, he also needs to trim his nails periodically, since they do not naturally grind, if the dog does not constantly run on the asphalt, of course. For claws, you should purchase a special tool - a claw cutter. For the operation to be painless, it is better to immediately purchase an expensive and high-quality one that will last for a long time.
Since the large, bulging and round eyes of the Pekingese have a shortened lacrimal canal, the natural moisture produced by it is not always enough to drain down the coat - more often they accumulate on the bridge of the nose and must be constantly removed. In addition, such eyes are more prone to injury and any hair caught in them can become a cause for concern for the dog, which begins to rub its muzzle against everything that comes its way, trying to get rid of it. Such attempts can result in injury and even ulcers. In addition, the natural folds of the skin located on both sides of the bridge of the nose must be carefully washed every day by moistening a cotton swab with a special liquid that can be purchased at a veterinary pharmacy.
Pekingese ears also need grooming and, of course, it should be regular, since the decorative wool surround prevents the ears from natural ventilation and the removal of secretions from them. For cleaning, you can use a regular cotton swab moistened with 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. If necessary, if the ear canal is very dirty, contact your veterinarian to prescribe special drops to clean your ears.
Brush your Pekingese's thick, long coat daily. It is not necessary to wash the animal often: as it gets dirty or a specific “doggy” smell appears, and only with a special shampoo.
