The largest rodent of the Russian fauna is the river beaver. The weight of adults ranges from 16 to 30 kg, although there are also larger specimens. The average body length is 80-85 cm. To catch a beaver, you need to carry out a number of preparatory measures.
Instructions
Step 1
Conduct a special survey and registration of beaver settlements. After that, it is possible to diagnose the possibility of catching beavers in a certain area.
Step 2
Mark the areas where trapping can be carried out and determine the number of individuals to be caught. It is allowed to start after the end of the breeding and feeding period for beavers. In the central regions, this occurs after July 10. The capture ends, taking into account the transportation time, so that the release of the animals occurs several weeks before the freeze-up.
Step 3
Catch beavers in the factory. This is done using a metal live trap with curtain doors. To it, using a rubber ring, wings from a nylon mesh are attached, which are needed when catching beavers from huts in deep-sea or littered bodies of water. A homemade trap is also used, made of wire rods fastened with hoops, in the form of a cylinder with a length of about a meter, with a diameter of 40-50 cm.
Step 4
Beavers can be caught using nets 25-30 meters long and 4 meters high with floats on the upper cord and sinkers on the lower one.
Step 5
On the shore, find a nesting chamber and start banging over it with a stick or with your feet. Beavers are frightened by the noise, come out of the hole and fall into a trap.
Step 6
But in cases where beavers are hiding or absent from the burrow, dogs specially trained to work with them can be useful. Such a dog feels the presence of a rodent through a half-meter layer of soil. It is released ashore after setting traps and by its behavior it is determined whether there is a beaver in the hole.
