Step 1
Cats are very vulnerable and impressionable animals, especially in childhood. Your little pet cares where he goes to the toilet, he is wary of many things, especially in the first few days of being in a new apartment. Therefore, the tray should be in a secluded and safe place. In no case should you spoil the baby's first acquaintance with the toilet: if at this moment, for example, a nearby washing machine suddenly starts buzzing, the kitten may be frightened and afraid to go to this place, no matter how hard you try to convince him later. To make him more comfortable, equip a whole corner where there will be not only a toilet, but also a bowl, a sleeping place - this will calm your pet, he will quickly get used to this part of your house.
Step 2
It is important to select the correct tray. There are no special requirements for it, but it is better to buy in a store a product specially made just like a cat's toilet, and let it be plastic. There is no need to use old boxes, crates, metal utensils and other containers made for other purposes for these purposes. The boxes can get wet and will most likely retain a smell, which neither your pet nor you yourself will like, and the metal is cold, oxidizes and rattles on the floor. Pay attention also to the height of the side - for a small kitten, it should not be very large, otherwise it will be difficult for him to get into the tray.
Step 3
To toilet train your kitten, keep the litter box clean at all times. Cats are very clean animals, they show it from the very childhood, and going where they don't clean it is against the nature of your pet. Even getting his paws wet is a big disappointment for him. Therefore, clean the tray regularly. Do not neglect the purchase of filler - the sand gets wet quickly and does not eliminate the smell, paper too, and besides, you can't really dig into it. Use lumpy, absorbent, woody, or silicone gel fillers.
Step 4
Some owners wash the tray with detergents - this is not necessary. Such liquids have a strong odor that is unnatural for the animal and can frighten it off.
Step 5
Do not over-patronize the kitten while getting used to the toilet. For example, stand over his soul and observe every time he is in the tray. Immediately after visiting the toilet, do not do anything unpleasant to the animal - do not comb, wash, do not scold.
Step 6
Try to set a mode for the kitten, because at first he does not understand what the tray is for. Like a small child, it is advisable to feed the animal on a schedule and put it on the potty regularly, and gradually it will develop a reflex. Be patient and punctual.
