Toilet training for a cat is a fairly simple but lengthy process. Small, almost imperceptible changes, small steps towards the intended goal - and in a month or two your pet will already confidently use the toilet, and you will get rid of the need to constantly monitor the state of the litter box.
Instructions
Step 1
The prerequisites for teaching a kitten to the toilet are confident use of the litter box and being older than three months (otherwise the baby simply won't be able to jump on the seat and stay there). Your main task in the first step is to move the tray as close to the toilet as possible. After each use of the tray, move it a few centimeters until you reach your intended target.
Step 2
After the litter box has taken its place at the foot of the toilet, do not touch it for several days - let the animal get used to the new location of its toilet.
Step 3
Prepare a pile of old newspapers or magazines. Place them under the tray, gradually (1-2 centimeters at a time) raising it above the floor level. This can be done several times a day, after each use of the tray. Make sure that the structure remains stable and does not wobble. There is no need to try to speed up the process - otherwise the animal may get confused. If at some point the cat begins to "miss" - lower the tray a few centimeters, do not change its position for several days, and then start raising it again - but more slowly. Gradually reduce the amount of filler in the process.
Step 4
After the tray rises to the level of the toilet seat, follow your pet for several days - you must be sure that he can easily jump to this height, feel calm and confident. Then remove the newspapers and place the tray directly on the sides of the toilet, making sure it doesn't wobble.
Step 5
After a few days, remove the litter box and hide it out of the reach of the cat (so he can't find it by smell), leaving the seat up. Your pet will only have to do their business directly in the toilet.
Step 6
If at this stage a failure occurs, you can return the tray back, and after a few days cut a small hole in the center of the structure, after a few days increase it - and so on until only the sides remain from the long-suffering cat litter. You can also purchase a special kit for training cats to the toilet - in fact, it is the same tray (only made in the form of a seat), with a hole in the bottom - it can be increased gradually.
