Appetite in dogs is an individual matter. Some dogs look into the bowl without interest and leave. Others are ready to sell for a tidbit of the owner with all his property. Still others eat only in moderation, but do not refuse tasty things either. Sometimes it makes sense to artificially increase the appetite, for example, when teenage puppies are underweight.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure the dog is healthy and that the need for increased appetite is really there. A veterinarian or an experienced breeder can help you with this. Evaluate the dog's fatness: the ribs are normally felt, but not bulging. The belly is tucked up, not sunken. The ischial bones do not appear sharp, and the joints have no noticeable thickening.
Step 2
If the dog starts to refuse food suddenly or gradually loses its appetite - this is a sign of illness. See your veterinarian for a complete check-up. The physiological cause of appetite may be lack of activity, estrus, pregnancy. In hot weather, animals usually eat much less without any negative consequences.
Step 3
For starters, increase your physical activity: walk the dog more. Arrange active outdoor games. An adult, well-developed pet can be trained to tow a skier or run next to a bike. Such a load is unacceptable for puppies.
Step 4
Feed your dog properly. Food is given strictly two or three times a day. The daily rate is divided into equal parts. At one time, the dog should eat all of the food. If there is something left in the bowl, remove the leftovers until the next feeding and put just that much less next time. When the animal learns to eat everything that has been given, gradually add the amount of food to the recommended amount.
Step 5
Unless stress and discipline help, you can use bitterness - plant-based substances used to improve appetite. For dogs, it is recommended to use an infusion of wormwood or dandelion roots. Pour a tablespoon of chopped raw materials with boiling water, leave for 15 minutes. Apply one tablespoon of strained infusion half an hour before feeding.
