Choosing a kitten is not easy. They are all equally charming, charming and spontaneous. However, you only need to find one who will become your true friend. And it is desirable that this new friend was not only charming, but also healthy. Take the time to thoroughly examine the pet candidate - this is the only way you can be sure that your life together will be long and happy.

Instructions
Step 1
Examine the kitten carefully. He should not limp, crouch on his front or hind legs, constantly itch or shake his head. All these actions can be the result of a disease or birth defect.

Step 2
When choosing a purebred kitten, check the reference books for a list of possible breed defects. For example, Scottish folds can have an unpleasant feature called a "hard tail". Such kittens will have a lot of problems in the future, besides, incorrectly fused vertebrae cause them constant pain.

Step 3
Take the kitten in your arms. Look into his ears - there should be no dark crusts inside. A healthy kitten does not have any discharge from the eyes and nose. Run your fingers over the coat - it should be dense, shiny, without bald spots. If dandruff is visible on it or the down looks dull and matted, the kitten is most likely unwell.

Step 4
Look under the baby's tail. If there are yellowish streaks near the anus, the animal may have intestinal problems. This may also be indicated by the general appearance. Too inflated "barrel-shaped" body or, on the contrary, excessive thinness is a reason to be on the alert. A healthy animal should be well-fed, but not overweight.

Step 5
Pay attention to the kitten's behavior. A healthy baby is curious, active, keenly interested in what is happening. If he constantly screams, the animal may be feeling pain or discomfort. Whiny babies often have a hernia or other diseases.

Step 6
Offer your little one a bite to eat. A healthy kitten will definitely be interested in the treat. If he turns away or backs away, he may have problems with appetite.
Step 7
Please note that in addition to health, a kitten's behavior is also influenced by its temperament. If you want to purchase a lively and active animal, choose the most vigorous baby from the litter. If you are interested in a calm "couch" cat, give preference to a quiet and phlegmatic kitten.
