There are a huge number of cat breeds in the world - some of them have been known since ancient times, others appeared relatively recently. Most breeds are the result of a long work of breeders, but there are also some cat breeds that appeared quite by accident. One of them is the York Chocolate Cat.

A distinctive feature of this breed is an even chocolate color of the coat (although a lilac shade is also allowed). As you might guess from the name, the breed was bred in the city of New York, USA. It happened in 1983, and quite unexpectedly. American Janet Chifari, the owner of outbred black-and-white cats and cats, discovered among their offspring a kitten (girl) of a beautiful chocolate shade. As it turned out, among the ancestors of her outbred pets were Siamese cats, which explained the appearance of a kitten of such an unusual color among black and white parents. Later, the chocolate cat had its own kittens, among which there was again one chocolate-colored kitten, this time a boy. The woman decided to bring them together - and a new breed of cats appeared.

The appearance of the York Chocolate Cat is close to the standards of its Siamese ancestors. The weight of representatives of this breed is about 4-6 kg. The head is of medium size, rounded with ears set high, rounded at the tips. The eyes are oval in color, golden green. The body of the cat is elongated, with poorly expressed muscles. The tail is long, with thick hair. The coat is dense, of medium length.

York Chocolate cats have an average life expectancy of about 14 years and are very healthy.

The character of the chocolate cat is quite playful and at the same time very kind. Representatives of this breed have a pronounced hunting instinct, which is manifested in its behavior and games, however, these cats are absolutely not aggressive, very affectionate with their owners and children. In addition, they get along well with other animals in the house.

Caring for a York Chocolate Cat requires a more thorough approach. Semi-long hair needs regular brushing so as not to lose its appearance, and as it gets dirty, the cat needs to be bathed.

The breed of York Chocolate cat is not widespread in Russia, and is most popular in its homeland.
