Periodically, the aquarium needs to be cleaned and some of the water replaced with clean water. Without this procedure, the fish may die, because waste and other pollution accumulate in the water. The easiest way to clean is a siphon, with which you can easily drain the water without moving the fish to another container. You can make a siphon from scrap material.
Instructions
Step 1
A siphon is a small tube. Make it from any hose, it should be about 50 cm long, but the diameter does not matter. But the smaller the diameter, the longer the water will drain from the aquarium. You can also make a longer tube - it will be more convenient to drain.
Step 2
If you have fry or small adult fish in your aquarium, put cheesecloth on one end and fix it with thread or a regular rubber band. Small fish can leak out with the water through the siphon, which is undesirable, because they can get scared and even die. If you have large fish species and they are larger than the diameter of the hose, you do not need to use cheesecloth.
Step 3
The principle of draining water with a siphon: insert the tube into the aquarium, create negative pressure, place the other end of the tube into a container and drain the required amount of water. Replace the drained water with clean water, but not with tap water. If you don't want to deflate the tube with your mouth, as you can drink dirty water, you can fill the tube with water, plug the end with your finger and carefully insert it into the aquarium. Release your finger and water will pour out of the container.
