Hedgehogs in Russia are quite widespread. Even in the city you can find these prickly kids. If you want to find a hedgehog and take it home, do not forget that the animal is wild and can carry disease. Therefore, it is better to buy animals in pet stores or, in extreme cases, show the foundling to a veterinarian.
Instructions
Step 1
The most common is the European (common) hedgehog. He lives in the steppe and forest meadows. You can try to meet him next to a large river, taiga, or in a semi-desert. The European hedgehog does not live in swamps and dense dense forests. In winter, this animal goes into hibernation, which can last six months. The animal hibernates in a nest of leaves and grasses, sometimes digs shallow burrows. During the day, the hedgehog hides.
Step 2
On the side of fields, in a deciduous forest, along the river, you can meet a forest hedgehog. Sometimes there are hybrids of European and forest hedgehogs. This animal hibernates in November and wakes up in March. The Amur hedgehog is related to the forest one. This animal is less common, does not occur in swamps, in the highlands and in large arable areas. Usually settles in coniferous-broad-leaved woodlands, overwinters in a ground nest.
Step 3
The steppe hedgehog is listed in the Red Book, so you most likely will not meet him. This animal lives next to a cultivated landscape, northern rivers, transport routes. Most often it settles in places where there are a lot of shrubs, grasses, sometimes it lives in steppes and forest-steppes. Does not occur in damp lowlands and in areas with rocky ground. During the day it hides under stones and roots. In hibernation from September (in the warm season from October) to April, hibernates in burrows of other animals.
Step 4
Explore semi-deserts, dry steppes, grassy-shrub wastelands, where you can meet a long-eared hedgehog. This animal lives in humid ravines, in irrigated lands and along rivers. Never found in dense grass and bare deserts. In summer, the animal hides in natural shelters. Hibernating from late October (or early November) to late March (early April), hibernates in long burrows. In warm weather, it does not hibernate.
Step 5
Very often hedgehogs are found in cities. These are nocturnal animals, you should not look for them during the day. Hedgehogs love apples, go outside at night and leave these fruits in the grass. Try not to make noise, do not try to take the animal right away. Feed him apples and milk for several nights in a row, he should get used to your presence.
