Step 1
A filter is a must in your aquarium. This equipment is divided into two types: internal, which will be located inside the aquarium, and, of course, external (this filter will be installed outside the aquarium). The type of filter should be selected depending on the volume of the aquarium. There are also filter materials that are used for mechanical and biological water purification: activated carbon, expanded clay or ceramic filler.
Step 2
The internal aquarium filter consists of a pump and a sponge. Contaminated water is passed through the sponge, and clean water comes out. This filter can be used in small aquariums up to 200 liters. The filter sponge itself must be cleaned and replaced with a new one as it wears out. Filter efficiency will depend on size, type and power.
Step 3
External aquarium filters have a canister. This canister is always outside the aquarium. Two hoses extend from such a filter. From one hose, water enters the canister, and through the other it goes back to the aquarium. When water enters the canister, several stages of mechanical, chemical and biological treatment take place. This filter is used for larger aquariums or smaller aquariums. In a small aquarium, the level of water pollution does not allow holding the internal filter. Some filters can be combined with a compressor, that is, together with water purification, they can saturate the water with oxygen, as well as with an ultraviolet lamp.
