Ear mites are small parasites that affect the ear canals of domestic animals - cats and dogs. There are cases when ear mites passed from pets to owners, i.e. of people.

Instructions

Step 1

Although the ear mite is negligible, it is not at all difficult to detect it. Parasites occupy the external auditory canals of cats or dogs, they are fed by dead skin particles and animal blood, which insects extract in the process of biting. Painful sensations, itching in the ears, as well as the discharge from the ear of a dark brown secretion, consisting of waste secreted by the mites, allows you to immediately diagnose otodectosis, that is, lesion with an ear mite.

Step 2

The ear mite is extremely contagious, it is transmitted from one animal to another by direct contact, most often young animals become a victim of parasites. Moreover, cats become infected much faster. This is due to the peculiarity of their behavior. When two animals meet, they express sympathy by rubbing their heads against each other. In this case, infection is almost guaranteed. But a person can also become an involuntary carrier of the disease. Having scratched a sick animal behind the ear, and subsequently a healthy one with the same hands, he can easily introduce parasites into healthy ears. And if, after contact, without washing his hands, a person rubs his own ears, he may well become infected himself.

Step 3

Dogs are also susceptible to infection with otodectosis. To some extent, they are even in a greater risk zone than cats, due to the fact that cats are mostly kept at home, and contacts between animals, if possible, occur, as a rule, with the knowledge of the owner. But dogs every day during a walk are constantly in contact with different relatives, among which there may be sick animals.

Step 4

To prevent the spread of the disease, it is necessary to treat all animals in contact with each other, even those that do not show visible signs of infection. Ticks can go unnoticed for 3 to 4 weeks, because it is quite difficult to see them themselves, and the brown secret will become noticeable only when it accumulates in significant numbers. Thorough cleaning of the room in which the animal is kept is also necessary. In this way, it will be possible to remove parasites that have fallen out of the ears and are waiting for a new victim among the fibers of the carpet or in the crevices of the floor. To prevent infection, you can also use special preparations applied to the withers of the animal. This measure is especially important for animals that have the ability to walk freely, when the owner is physically unable to track with whom and to what extent his pet is in contact.
