A large dog will not do without daily walks on the street, but many owners of small dogs teach their pets to go to the litter box at home. If you manage to accustom your Yorkshire terrier to this as a child, you will greatly simplify the life of yourself and your dog.
It is necessary
- - tray;
- - diapers or newspapers.
Instructions
Step 1
As soon as the animal appears in your house, a toilet should already be equipped for it. If the puppy is very small, at first it can be taught to walk on a diaper or newspaper, since it will simply be difficult for him to get into the tray. Limit the space the dog will be in to one room and cover a large portion of the floor with diapers. It is better to remove the carpet for this time. As soon as you notice that the baby began to behave restlessly - whining, spinning and looking for a place where you can do your business, grab him and carry him to the diaper. After the Yorkie goes to the toilet, be sure to praise him. If the dog does his business in the wrong place, soak a piece of diaper in a puddle so that the next time the dog will be easier to navigate by smell. In the first weeks, it is advisable that you spend as much time as possible with the puppy and have the opportunity at any time to correct his inappropriate behavior and encourage the correct choice of a place for the toilet.
Step 2
Reduce the area occupied by the diapers gradually. If you see that the puppy can already be patient and run from another room where he played to the toilet, the diaper can be moved to the place where you plan to put the tray in the future. If you have a Yorkshire Terrier girl, you can equip her toilet in any corner, but if you are a boy, then when choosing a place, you should take into account that he will lift his paw and can get on furniture or wallpaper.
Step 3
Choose a convenient litter box for your puppy with sides that will not interfere with his climb inside. For a boy, you can purchase a special tray with a post in the middle. Put a diaper or newspaper in it, which the yorker is used to walking on. If the puppy is confused by an unfamiliar construction, you may have to, as before, put the puppy in the toilet at the first sign of anxiety. Once your Yorkshire Terrier is used to the litter box, the diaper can be removed or replaced with litter.
