The dingo's devotion won the hearts of readers of Jules Verne's Fifteen-Year-Old Captain. In the work of an outstanding author, you can find a story about an unusual dog, whose main habitat is Australia. This is a unique animal. Despite the fact that dingos are called dogs, they do not bark, but they can growl like a wolf.
According to the classification of "Karl Linnaeus", the dingo dog belongs to the order of predators, the canine of the wolf species. And only in the subspecies the name of the dingo appears.
The most common dingo habitat must be called Australia. It is on this continent that you can find animals that are not found on other continents of the planet or are very rare in other places. In addition to the "green continent", these animals can be found in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Myanmar), southeast China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Borneo, Laos, the Philippines and New Guinea. However, in these areas, populations of dingoes are small.
Australia is famous for its almost complete absence of predators. Consequently, the dingo population had no natural enemies on this continent.
An adult, reaches 62 cm at the withers. Weight sometimes exceeds 20 kg. The color varies from light brown to dark brown. Some individuals are white or spotted. Dogs of this subspecies prefer a nocturnal lifestyle. As a rule, dingoes do not gather in large flocks (only 8-12 individuals - such a number of these animals can be observed in a flock). But if we are talking about large prey, for example, to beat off a sheep from the flock, the number of individuals in the flock can increase several times.
These predators live in caves or burrows. The mother feeds her cubs with milk up to four months, and already at the age of one year, dingoes hunt independently.
These dogs are fast enough. An adult at a short distance, develops a speed of 60-65 km / h.
Dingos are not native to Australia. Scientists claim that this species was brought to the "green continent" about 3500 years ago from the islands of the Indonesian archipelago.
