Ampularia are freshwater mollusks. In home aquariums, they are kept not only as a decorative addition to the interior, but also for purely practical purposes. They do an excellent job of controlling fouling on aquarium walls and on aquatic plants. It is not difficult to get offspring of ampularia, you just need to provide some necessary conditions.
Instructions
Step 1
Ampularia are fairly large aquarium snails. Their shell looks like a spiral cone of bright yellow-golden or yellow-brown color. They breathe oxygen in the air and therefore float to the surface from time to time. Snails feed on all sorts of leftovers and fouling, but if necessary, they can be fed with lettuce or cabbage leaves, previously scalded with boiling water.
Step 2
Ampularia are heterosexual, oviparous molluscs. However, it is almost impossible to distinguish between males and females.
Step 3
For breeding snails, an aquarium with a volume of up to 30 liters is quite suitable. Fill it so that there is at least 10-15 cm to the top edge. Cover the aquarium with a coverslip.
Step 4
Ampularia offspring develop in the air. The female selects a place with the required temperature and humidity. Therefore, one day you may find masonry on the wall of the aquarium, on the lid, or on the coverslip.
Step 5
If the female did not find a suitable place, and the aquarium was not closed at the top, then it is quite possible that you will find her on the floor. If the snail is out of the aquarium, place it in a separate container, such as a three-liter jar. Close the jar with a lid. The female will lay her eggs in a jar.
Step 6
The clutch of ampularia is pinkish-yellow in shape, resembles a mulberry berry, is 4-7 cm long and 1-2 cm wide. Do not touch it if it holds up normally. If the masonry has fallen, place it in a plastic jar lid. Place the lid on the surface of the aquarium water.
Step 7
Ampularia offspring will appear in 1, 5 - 3 weeks. Despite their extremely small size (about 1/4 of a match head), "snails" already have a shell and a characteristic color.
Step 8
It is best to immediately plant the kids in a separate small (about 10 liters in volume) aquarium. Fill it with water no more than 5 cm (babies breathe air and should float up periodically).
Step 9
In the first month of life, feed the brood with a boiled egg. Be sure to remove food debris. By the age of two months, small ampularia are already able to eat finely chopped lettuce and cabbage leaves scalded with boiling water.
Step 10
Ampularia grow rapidly. Having reached 2-3 mm, snails are already able to feed on aquarium fouling.
