Plants in an aquarium are needed not only for decoration, as a decorative element. They play the role of a kind of filter for purifying water, saturating it with oxygen. In their thickets, small species of fish and fry can hide from danger. Therefore, the correct selection of plants for the aquarium is very important.
Instructions
Step 1
Like every fish species, every plant needs water of a certain temperature, acidity and hardness. Therefore, try to choose plants for the aquarium, taking into account the species composition and the characteristics of the content of the fish in it.
Step 2
All aquarium plants are divided into three groups: underwater, floating, and those that are used to decorate cups, grottoes in the corners of the aquarium. The most widespread underwater plants are lustrous, marsh grass, water moss, water fern, elodea, vallisneria, heleocharis, egg capsule, aponogeton, cryptocoryne, ludwigia, hornwort, kabomba, etc. Floating plants are represented by such specimens as riccia salvinia, duckweed, water cabbage water paint, wolfia, pemphigus. Popular emerging plants: cyperus, tradescantia, isolepis, loosestrife, saxifrage, calla, chastuha, richardia, arrowhead. When purchasing aquarium plants from a pet store, choose young green bushes, without spots. Some slow-growing species (for example, Cryptocoryne), it is better to buy larger ones.
Step 3
Plants are distinguished light-loving and unpretentious to lighting - shade-tolerant. Please note that some of the aquarium plants slow down their growth and even die when there is a lack of natural light. Such species as Marsilia, Curly Elodea, Water Fern, Bacopa, Cryptocoryne, Cardamine, Ludwigia need natural light.
Step 4
Choose plants of different groups for your aquarium to make the picture of the underwater world as close to natural as possible and create favorable living conditions for fish. At the same time, keep in mind that the aquarium should not be oversaturated with various decorative elements and plants. Even the calmest fish that swim little need free space.
