Step 1
If possible, wait until the parrot is a month and a half from the moment it was born. When they are very small, it is almost impossible to determine their gender, especially if you do not have deep ornithological knowledge.
Step 2
Pay attention to the parrot wax. This is the name of the formation from the skin, which is located in the upper part of the bird's beak. In males, this area is usually blue or light blue, while in females the wax is most often brownish. However, under severe stress or during moulting, this area can turn blue in females, so look for other signs of the sex of budgies.
Step 3
If a month has not passed since the birth of your pet, then the color of the wax will not be expressed so brightly. In males, in the first 30 days of life, the area above the beak has a uniform purple-pink color. The wax of young females is at first heterogeneous and has white markings on a light blue or light beige background. Also, the presence of a thin white border around the nostrils can be a sign that there is a girl in front of you.
Step 4
Look at the paws of the budgerigar. In females, they are pinkish. And the legs of males have a bluish tint. To determine the sex of a parrot more accurately, it is better to look at them not one by one, but when they are together.
Step 5
Pay attention to the behavior of the bird. Females are less active. This is especially noticeable in an unusual environment for birds. Once in a new place, males begin to study with curiosity everything that is around them. The girls, on the other hand, begin to clean up the cage. They throw out of it everything that seems superfluous to them.
Step 6
Listen to the song of the parrot. Females tend to sing less often. Their songs are much shorter and less beautiful. In addition, they are more difficult to train and begin to speak less often than males.
