In winter, many birds lack food and may die. A person is able to prevent this, because if you install a simple feeder and pour some grains and old bread into it, then the birds will be full, and you can watch how the birds eat interestingly.

Step 1
The simplest feeder can be an ordinary unnecessary box - for example, from under the shoes. Fasten it between the twigs of trees, or hang it on four strong ropes, then add food. The disadvantage of such a feeder is that it is not protected from wind and snow - in bad weather, the food will be blown out and carried in by precipitation - it will be difficult for birds to get to food.
Step 2
For small birds, it is best to make a feeder from boxes of dairy products. Thoroughly wash the contents of the box, let it dry, then cut the windows on both sides with the expectation that seeds will be poured on the bottom. Hang such a feeder on a tree - and it will last all winter, because packaging for dairy products is made of material that does not get wet, so precipitation is not terrible for such a feeder!

To prevent the birds from sharing food, you can make several of these feeders on the same tree.
Step 4
For medium sized birds, feeders can be made from larger boxes with a lid. It should only be borne in mind that the windows should be as large as possible - otherwise the birds will not understand what kind of structure it is, and many of them will simply be afraid to fly into a closed dark space.
Step 5
If you show a little imagination, then from ordinary feeders you can make an excellent decoration for your yard.
To do this, take waterproof paints and paint cardboard boxes. You can make them multi-colored, or you can arrange them in some unified style: for example, by depicting heroes from some kind fairy tale on the boxes.
Step 6
Make feeders together with your kids and neighbors. This activity is great for developing a sense of responsibility and curiosity in children. And when the first guests come to the feeding trough to feast on, you can tell the kids what kind of bird they are and what they prefer to eat in nature.
