People have always cared about our smaller brothers, including birds. Due to the difficult ecological situation, many bird species are now endangered. Therefore, it is important to remember about them and, if possible, provide them with care and attention. You can start with basic feeding.
Of course, it is advisable to feed the birds all year round, but it is in the winter that they suffer from hunger and cold most of all.
For those who want to help them, the easiest way is to make a feeder. This process can become interesting and creative not only for adults but also for children.
You can make a bird feeder at home from a variety of materials. Of course, you can go to the store and buy it there. But isn't it better to get pleasure and satisfaction from your work?
Let's take a look at how to make a bird feeder in more detail:
- You can use a juice bag. Punch rectangular or round holes at the bottom. Visors can be made over them. Fill the feeder with food and hang it from a branch or window frame. It is noteworthy that titmice prefer such feeders more than other birds.
- Take two plastic bags of instant noodles. Use them as a bottom, where you will pour food, and a roof. Connect them with pieces of plywood and bolts. Make sure that the birds are not crowded inside.
- A good feeder can be made from a plastic bottle. You can simply make a hole in it, add food and hang it outside the window. And you can cut off the neck of the bottle so that a visor forms from one wall in a horizontal position. Insert a plate under it into this hole and pour food into the bottle.
- Use the empty egg container as a feeder. Attach at the four corners of the string. Now you can tie the feed trough to the branch.
- You can make a mesh feeder filled with rowan fruits. Bullfinches, blackbirds or waxwings will love her.
- Take an empty paper towel roll and thread the tape through it. It must be long so that the feeder can actually be hung. After that, spread the honey on the roll and sprinkle with bird food.
- Use a glass jar as a feeder. Its volume can be from 1 to 3 liters. The neck must be closed with a capron and a hole must be made in it (diameter 5-6 cm).
- And, of course, you can make a solid wooden feeder. What you need for this: 2 pieces of plywood, 4 bars and 4 slats. Attach a rope with a ring to the top of the roof and hang the feeder from a tree.
- When choosing food, give preference to raisins, sunflower seeds, puffed or crushed corn, mealworms, peeled peanuts. Tits and woodpeckers love pumpkin and sunflower seeds. Sparrows and goldfinches - millet, oats, millet. Bullfinches and waxwings - berries of viburnum, mountain ash and elderberry. Woodpeckers and crossbills - cones, nuts and acorns.
Help the birds, do not let them die from cold and hunger. And the birds, in turn, will help us clear the gardens from pests by the spring.
