However, this kind of attachment is an exception. It will be difficult for a dog to forget the previous owner and fall in love with the new one, but you can achieve this.
Step 2
Try to prevent the dog in your house from having to drastically change its habits - for an adult animal this will be additional stress. Talk to the previous owner, find out what time and how many times a day he walked the dog, how often and what he fed it. Ask where the animal prefers to sleep and make it a similar bed, buy toys and treats that the dog likes. Of course, the dog's previous lifestyle may be uncomfortable for you. You can make your adjustments, but do it gradually. For example, if you want to transfer the dog to two meals a day, you should give him a smaller portion for lunch or treat him with dog treats for several days.
Step 3
The dog loves the one who takes care of it. If you want her to quickly recognize you as her mistress, take all the care of the animal on yourself. Try to make the time you spend with your dog as enjoyable as possible for you and your dog. When going for a walk, take toys with you. Don't follow the same route, visit different places. Run and overcome obstacles with the animal, laugh, talk to him, pat him on the withers, if the pet is not against such manipulations. At first, it is better not to let the dog off the leash, so that it can frolic for its own pleasure, because a pet that is not yet accustomed may not return at your call.
Step 4
Practice with your dog. Even if the previous owner taught the dog commands, this does not guarantee that the dog will sit and lie down at your command. You can attend classes with an instructor or study on your own. An experienced dog handler, dedicated to the history of your dog's appearance, can help you find a common language faster. During training, praise the animal for obedience, treat it with treats, and do not use negative reinforcement. At the moment, the dog does not trust you anyway, and screaming or spanking will aggravate the situation.
Step 5
Love and respect your dog. Be patient, do not insist on physical contact with the animal, do not force the dog to endure when you pet him. Your attention and care will certainly pay off, and one day the dog will come up voluntarily and ask you to pet him.
