First of all? look at the baby's behavior. A healthy puppy is active and mobile. You understand that if an animal is unwell, it has no time for games. The kid should not be fearful or aggressive. You can do a simple test: clap your hands or drop a bunch of keys on the floor. A balanced puppy will be on the alert for a moment, and immediately calmly return to his studies. If the puppy is too shy or aggressive, it is better not to take him - perhaps his character will not change in the future.

Now move on to assessing the puppy's physical condition. The eyes should be clean, shiny, without lacrimation and pus. Look for inflammation of the third eyelid, some breeds have this problem. The ears of a healthy puppy are pale pink and clean. They shouldn't smell. If the baby shakes his head and ears, it is possible that an ear mite is present. The mucous membranes should also be bright pink. If they are pale in color, the puppy may be sick or wired. Examine the abdomen. It should be flat. A swollen tummy is often an indicator that a dog has worms. Check for a hernia.

Examine the skin and fur. The coat should be smooth and shiny. Although many puppies still have children's fluff, which does not shine. Healthy skin - clean, without wounds, ulcers. The anal opening and genitals should be clean, the hair under the tail should not stick together.

In addition to examining the puppy itself, look at the mother. Ask the breeder what she has ever had. Some diseases are inherited, such as hip dysplasia. If there were puppies from this breeding pair before, it would be good to look at them. It's easier to determine what your puppy might be by offspring than by the parents themselves.
