Pedigree dog owners know how important it is to bathe their pets regularly. The coat must be kept clean, especially if the dog participates in exhibitions. This also applies to dachshunds, because such active dogs sometimes simply cannot help getting dirty during a walk!
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, you should choose a special shampoo for dogs. The difficulty lies in the fact that dachshunds have very dry skin, so the wrong product can cause irritation. Since the shampoo washes away the natural lubrication of the skin, a break of 5-6 days should be taken between baths so that the lubricant has time to recover.
Step 2
The dachshund should be washed completely, from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail. Therefore, to prevent water from accidentally getting into your pet's ears, place carefully oiled pieces of cotton wool in them before bathing.
Step 3
Pour special dog shampoo into a separate bowl, then dilute with water, stir well and whip into lather. Place the dachshund on the bottom of the tub. If the bathtub is too cold, preheat it with a stream of warm water. You can also place an old terry towel or rag on the bottom.
Step 4
Wet your dachshund thoroughly. Pay attention to the water temperature! Dogs are recommended to be washed with cool water, not warm, much less hot. After wetting your pet's fur, gently apply shampoo to it. Rinse the coat thoroughly (you can use a special brush for the best effect), and then wash off the shampoo and rinse the dachshund. Please note: the coat should be slippery after washing.
Step 5
Next, you need to dry the wool slightly. This can be done in several ways. First, you can run your hands over the body of the dachshund, as if squeezing water out of the wool. Secondly, blot the coat with a dry rag or towel. Thirdly, slightly blow the dachshund in the ear: in this case, it will instinctively begin to dust itself off.
Step 6
After pre-drying the dog, dry it thoroughly and wrap it in a warm towel. If desired, you can apply a special oil, dog balm, or any other product that does not need to be washed off to the pet's coat. The dachshund's coat can then be dried with a hair dryer (note that the air jet must be cold) or allowed to dry on its own.
