Large breed dogs are, of course, the most powerful representatives of this species of domesticated animals. Some of the larger breeds have been bred by farmers and shepherds to serve as aid carriers and sheep shepherds. Some were bred specifically as guards for the nobility. It is impossible to give an unequivocal answer which of the fifteen largest breeds is the strongest, but there are several that definitely cannot be denied in strength.
Neapolitan mastiff
The Neapolitan Mastiff was bred by breeders as a large and formidable defender, capable of scaring an intruder with one of his looks. This dog has a very developed guardian instinct, the basis of which is the strongest love for the owner and his family members. This dog is really dependent on its owners and is able to react sensitively to their behavior and mood.
Strong and sincere love makes mastiffs friends and guards, selflessly guarding the peace of the family - the flock, to which members they consider themselves. The owners of the Neapolitans note their extraordinary intelligence and ability to understand the emotional state of a person.
Neapolitan Mastiffs really need the attention of the owner and are capable of falling into depression if it seems insufficient to them.
Males of the Neapolitan Mastiffs reach at the withers up to 75 cm, females - up to 68, the weight of these dogs, respectively, 70 and 60 kg, but there are those whose weight reaches 90 kg, although this is a rarity even for these giants.
Tosa Inu
This dog breed was bred in Japan and is considered the strongest there, sometimes it is also called the Japanese Mastiff, although outwardly it looks more like a Great Dane. This is a fighting dog, specially bred to participate in dog fights, and today in Japan fights are held with the participation of dogs of this breed, but with all this, Tosa Inu dogs are excellent friends and companions for their owners.
There are almost no purebred Tosa Inu in Europe - the Japanese are reluctant to have the breed bred somewhere outside their country. Anyone who wants to make such a friend for himself must be an active and physically strong person, have experience in raising and communicating with dogs. The height and weight of males is 90 cm and 60 kg, bitches - 70 cm and 55 kg.
In Japan, Tosa Inu are known for their condescending and friendly attitude towards children, but in any case, you cannot leave a dog alone with a small child, no matter what breed it is.
Tibetan mastiff
An amazing dog with a lush thick mane, was bred specifically to guard the temples lost in the mountains. According to legend, the Tibetan Mastiff, belonging to the Buddha himself, weighed 120 kg, but most often their weight does not exceed 85 kg, and the height at the withers is 85 cm.
Monks in Tibet used these dogs not only as guards, but also as carriers of goods, these dogs are considered in their homeland a symbol of wealth and power. And this is not surprising - there is a known case when a puppy of this breed was sold for 1.5 million dollars.
