The French lapdog (Bichon Frize) is a rather rare breed of dog in Russia. Today, looking at this cute, curly creature, it is very difficult to believe that in the Middle Ages this breed was considered a hunting breed and was used by farmers to exterminate rats.
French lapdog is a purely Russian name for a touching, small dog, whose height barely reaches 30 cm. Throughout the world, this gentle and fluffy creature is known as the Bichon Frize. Interestingly, the first mentions of Bichons date back to the 13th century.
Description of the breed and character
In Russia, the French lapdog appeared only in the nineties of the last century and immediately fell in love with rich housewives, thanks to its kind disposition, charming face and compact size. As in Europe, these dogs were immediately invited to exhibitions, and the most skilled groomers began to experiment with their appearance in every possible way. It is curious that in Russia the Bichon Frize is often mistaken for one of the poodle varieties, which sometimes causes a real storm of indignation among their owners.
The French lapdog can be safely called a decorative dog, since the main purpose of the representatives of this breed is to evoke a reaction of affection in everyone who sees them. It makes no sense to use the Bichon for any other purpose, for example, to protect a home or land plot. Of course, these dogs are brave, but their disadvantage (or advantage?) Is that they are too kind to everyone around them and even to complete strangers.
French lapdogs are extremely cheerful and active representatives of the canine tribe, so anyone who decides to get this dog should be prepared for frequent and long walks in the fresh air.
Bichons are famous beggars and if you often treat them with all sorts of delicacies containing fats, then after a while the dog will certainly gain excess weight. To prevent this from happening, experts recommend feeding French lapdogs only dry food, while portions should be strictly rationed.
Caring for a French lapdog
Like all long-haired decorative dogs, the French lapdog needs to be looked after. Care, as a rule, is reduced only to hygiene procedures: examination of the ears, eyes, teeth and claws. Earwax should not be allowed to accumulate in the ears of the animal and the teeth should also be periodically cleaned. It is also necessary to ensure that the pet's nails are always properly trimmed.
Bichons are dog breeds prone to allergies to certain foods, so it is advisable to feed them with special dry food that does not contain allergens.
