Among the unique species of primates, one can distinguish the tiny inhabitants of the Philippines, which are called tarsiers. These unusual creatures live in the Philippines, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi.
The tarsier is a small primate that lives in the forested area of some islands in the Philippines. He has a characteristic appearance that is inherent in the entire family. Tarsiers are believed to belong to the tarsiers family. Disproportionately long ankles indicate mammalian identity. Tarsiers live in trees.
The appearance of these babies is very peculiar. Animals have huge, bulging yellow eyes that can glow in the dark. Sometimes tarsiers have red or green eyes. The head and body are small, round and wide. They have well-developed fingers and hands. The coat is gray or brown and the tail is thin and hairless. Despite the fact that tarsiers have a lot in common with monkeys, some argue that they belong to the lemur family. Tarsiers grow up to only six inches in size. These are very small monkeys, their weight can reach only 160 g.
These animals adhere to eating insects. Occasionally they can eat larger food, such as small birds. Some researchers who keep tarsiers in captivity note that they can eat seafood such as shrimp.
The tarsiers are threatened with extinction. Due to the previous tradition of catching tarsiers and making stuffed animals for sale, as well as due to a decrease in the habitat, the population has declined significantly. Now this tradition is banned, and the animals themselves are under the protection of the law.
