Causes of constipation in kittens

Malnutrition or overeating is the most common cause of feline constipation. In addition, the animal's diet is also important - if it consumes some easily digestible or concentrated dry feed, it is advisable to give up unnatural food for a while.
It should be remembered that kittens have no sense of proportion, so they need to be given strictly limited portions of food.
Also, the kitten may not go to the toilet in a big way because of the hairballs that he swallows when licking his fur coat. Adult cats regurgitate them, eating special grass, but small kittens need to be given a certain paste or tablets to remove wool lumps. What to do with constipation in kittens
If the kitten does not defecate for a long time, the stool accumulated in the large intestine will begin to produce decay products that put stress on the kidneys, liver and heart. You can cope with natural constipation on your own by giving your baby laxatives - for example, "Sodium picosulfate" or "Lactusan". In this case, you must strictly observe the dosage of the medicine indicated in the instructions.
In case of constipation, kittens should not be given vegetable or castor oils, which will cause severe pain and additionally load the liver.

Vaseline oil softens the feces well and lubricates the intestinal walls - you need to give it three times a day, counting the dose on the kitten's weight. You can use this method for no longer than five days. Condensed milk should be diluted with boiled water and given to the pet to drink. When the kitten is emptying, you need to restore the microflora of its intestines with the help of special preparations, which will be prescribed by the veterinarian. Usually, the maximum effect of these drugs occurs after two to three months.
