Hamsters don't require much movement. However, their owners are often worried and puzzled about how to wean them from gnawing on the rods of the cage, especially since hamsters do it loudly enough and mainly in the dark, preventing everyone from sleeping.
Instructions
Step 1
Go to the pet store and get special mineral crayons and stones for hamsters. Put them in a cage, or better, hang or reinforce between the rods so that they are always in the animal's field of vision. At the pet store, you can also buy special treats for hamsters that help grind their teeth, which they, like all rodents, grow throughout their lives.
Step 2
Place a block of wood or twigs (anything other than cherry, plum, or softwood) in the cage. Several pieces can also be fixed on the cage rods. Replenish your supply of twigs periodically.
Step 3
Do not smear the rods of the cage with sharp odorous substances (mustard, adjika, etc.), as the hamster may die from such a "treat". The maximum that you can do is to wipe the rods with a weak solution of chloramphenicol or lemon juice, so that the rodent, having once again tried the cage "by the mouth," understands that it is extremely tasteless.
Step 4
Buy Antigryzin spray from the pet store, which can be sprayed on the cage bars. However, in many cases, the spray is useless, and the hamster continues to gnaw his home as if nothing had happened.
Step 5
Pay attention to which side the hamster is chewing on the cage. If he chews on it from the side of the door, then perhaps he just wants to take a walk. Take it out of the cage and let it run or put it in a special walking ball so that you don't look for it later. After the animal has frolicked in freedom, put it back in the cage, but turn it with the door to the blank wall. Perhaps then the hamster's interest in the rods of the cage will weaken somewhat.
Step 6
Buy a new home for your hamster: an aquarium or terrarium, put pieces of wood and pebbles there. Of course, the hamster will not stop gnawing everything in a row from this, but you will almost not hear him.
Step 7
If possible, move the hamster cage to another room or bathroom at night. As a last resort, cover the cage with a thick blanket to muffle sounds a little.
