Starting from the age of three months, a small kitten should be able to take care of itself: tidy up its fur, clean its paws and trim its claws. Sometimes the baby can get very dirty, get fleas or ticks, get smeared with something. In such cases, you should seriously think about bathing it. Many cats hate water treatments, however, they are an important part of pet grooming. A kitten should be taught to bathe from a very early age, from the moment it appears in the house.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare your shampoo in advance. Take a thick terry towel, as after bathing the kitten may start scratching, and it will protect you from its sharp little claws. In order not to injure the skin of the kitten, it is best to wash it with a special shampoo for kittens. It will not only rid the baby of dirt, but also make his coat soft and silky.
Step 2
The air temperature in the room should not be lower than + 22 ° С, the little kitten is very sensitive to hypothermia and can easily catch a cold.
Step 3
Take a small bowl. Pour warm water into it so that its level reaches the kitten's chest. Place some kind of rubberized mat or towel on the bottom of the basin. This is necessary so that the baby's paws do not slide along the bottom while swimming.
Step 4
Bathe your kitten no earlier than three hours after eating. For an animal with a full stomach, bathing will not be enjoyable and may cause digestive problems.
Step 5
On the eve of the water procedure, trim the kitten's claws. Cover his ears with cotton swabs to prevent water from getting into them.
Step 6
Remember that the bathing process must be friendly. Do not make sudden movements, keep them soft and confident. Praise your baby while bathing, talk to him and call him by name.
Step 7
Put the kitten in a bowl of water, dampen the coat, apply a little shampoo on the back and belly. Lather it lightly with gentle strokes. Don't forget that shampoo tends to lather a lot. Do not apply too much of it, as it will be very difficult to rinse off the foam later. Be careful to avoid getting water in your pet's eyes.
Step 8
After that, immediately wash off the shampoo, do it in several waters. To speed up the process, you can use a shower hose with a weak water pressure. Just do not scare the kitten with strong jets and shower noise.
Step 9
Lift the kitten out of the basin and wrap it in a towel to remove excess water. If you then want to move your baby to another room, make sure it is warm and free of drafts.
