Broiler - young poultry raised for meat production. In addition to choosing the right breed (Cornish and Plymouth Rocks are best), you need to create the right conditions for the chickens.
It is necessary
- - lime;
- - litter;
- - heater;
- - feeder;
- - drinking bowl.
Instructions
Step 1
The room where you plan to raise the chicks should have a dry, waterproof and low heat conduction floor. The poultry house must be equipped with a ventilation system and protected from rodents.
Step 2
Before settling in a new batch of chickens, treat the floor with fluff lime at the rate of 1 kilogram per square meter. After that, you can lay down the bedding. It should be dry, loose, and absorb moisture and gases well. As litter, you can use shavings, sawdust, sunflower husks, fibrous peat, crushed stalks of corn cobs. Frozen, moldy or dirty bedding should not be used.
Step 3
Chicks emit a lot of carbon dioxide, so the room should be well ventilated. Keep an eye on the humidity in the house: in the first days of a bird's life, it should be about 70%, then it can be reduced to 60-65%.
Step 4
Feeders and drinkers should be installed directly under the heater. Please note that there is enough space at the feeder for all birds. Thinking that you can get by with small feeders, and some of the chickens will go to food after the first batch is full - is wrong. Such chickens will lag behind in growth. Drinking water should be cold.
Step 5
Monitor the behavior of the chicks. If they get piled up, the room temperature should be increased; lie on the floor, spreading their wings and opening their beak - to reduce. At first, the temperature in the house should be 35 degrees. Broilers at the age of four weeks will be satisfied if the room will be warmed up to 18.
Step 6
Day length is of great importance for chickens. Light improves metabolism, gas exchange, increases the motor activity of broilers. If necessary, use additional lighting to artificially extend the time of day.
