Requirements for water and temperature are not complicated, newts are often found in nature, so keeping a newt at home is rarely a problem. Particular attention should be paid only to nutrition, because in captivity it is necessary to reproduce the same style of feeding animals to which they are accustomed to in a free life.

Step 1
The diet of the newt is very diverse. The main food is earthworms, bloodworms, forage cockroaches, cricket larvae, boiled shrimp. Be sure to rinse all newt food before feeding.

When feeding in water, do not drop the feed to the bottom. Newts cannot always find food, which subsequently decomposes and spoils the water. Take a piece of worm or bloodworm with tweezers and lower it into the aquarium. You can shake food slightly to simulate the movement of live prey. Newts very easily learn to eat from their hands.
Step 3
Young newts that have just finished metamorphosis need feeding on small insects. In summer, try feeding the animals with aphids. Newts gladly eat entire colonies of these insects. Cut off aphid-covered plant twigs and spread them over the bottom of the enclosure. Change them after two to three days. Make sure that ants do not get into the terrarium along with aphids, they disturb the newts.

In addition to aphids, you can offer cricket larvae to newts. Buy ready-to-breed crickets from a pet store or market. Set them up in a separate aquarium. It is recommended to put pieces of paper or cardboard at the bottom. It is very good to use egg cartons.
Step 5
Place a tray with moistened soil in the aquarium with crickets, the thickness of the soil should be at least 5 cm. Periodically loosen the soil and make sure that it does not dry out. Feed adult crickets with vegetable slices and cabbage leaves. The temperature for breeding is +25 degrees.
Step 6
Cricket larvae emerge from the ground two weeks after laying. They should be fed to young newts. When you get used to the nymph hatching regime, you can simply put a tray of soil in the terrarium for newts 1-2 days before the young crickets emerge. This will save you the hassle of catching small insects.
Step 7
Newts can be fed with small aquarium fish such as neons or guppies during their aquatic life. To do this, it is enough to launch the fish directly into the water to the newts.
Step 8
Adult newts in the ground period can also be fed with tweezers finely chopped shrimps, May beetle larvae, large bloodworms, earthworms. It is worth teaching the newt to find food on its own. Place it at the bottom of the terrarium and watch when the amphibian finds food on its own. Be sure to remove leftover food.
Step 9
If you are using live bloodworms for feeding on land, put it in a bowl with a low edge so that the worms do not crawl, but the newt can eat on its own. Bloodworms can also be used for ice cream, the main thing is not to focus only on this type of food. Diversify the menu of newts with other insects.
Step 10
Feed the young newts daily. Adults over two years old three to four times a week. It is necessary to feed until the animal itself refuses to eat. Newts, like some frogs, have no problem overfeeding.
