Both of these animals outwardly resemble the European beaver, however, judging by the structure of the skeleton and other features, they are not relatives.
The wombat is amazing in that it is one of the largest animals on the planet that digs earthen tunnels. Moreover, their size is such that they can accommodate a person of average build in a prone position. The length of such tunnels sometimes reaches 30 m. The legs of the animal are equipped with a sole, equally designed for earthmoving and for running quickly. Therefore, he is able to deftly hide from enemies, pulling out a decent underground passage in a matter of minutes.
The wombat is a herbivore. In the south of Australia, it does not lack food. Despite his peaceful disposition, he needs to defend himself from predators. The main strategy used by this animal is escape into its hole. A feature of the Australian soil is a large amount of sand that is applied by winds to the vegetation cover of the earth. For this reason, wombats quickly wear out their teeth.
These animals belong to the order of marsupials. After birth, the baby is in this mother's skin pocket for six months. As a rule, the female brings only one baby per year. The main enemy of these animals is the Australian peasant, who does not like the wombat's earthmoving talent. Sometimes the animal is so keen on building its underground passages that it penetrates into the possessions of farmers, and for this reason is ruthlessly exterminated.
Far Eastern leopard
Another representative of the animal world has become extremely rare in nature due to the fault of man. The most beautiful representative of the cat family today is not just on the verge of extinction, there are no more than a dozen of these representatives of the fauna left. The habits and habitat of the leopard are well studied, there are no secrets about its origin and classification. These large graceful predators were exterminated by humans due to the presence of their hide, valuable for fur production.
